Appellation:

Alsace

Locality:

Various locations around Ribeauvillé: Colmarer Weg, Streng, Mittlerer Forst…

Type of soil:

The Louis SIPP parcels of land are situated in the geological fracture zone of Ribeauvillé. They constitute a territory which is highly geologically fragmented. They are above all areas with hard chalk, clay and marl from the Liassic and Triassic periods, sandstone clay, and calcareous, chalky conglomerates from the Oligocene period. The area is also characterised by silt-laden deposits, originally loessial, and by glacis and sandy alluvium in the valley and on the plain. PPinot Noir is also found in soils which are relatively heavy, (where clay is present), chalky, early fruiting and bearing a low yield. A high level of maturity as well as perfectly sound grapes are necessary to bring out the colour and the fruit of this grape variety more used to grow in more southern regions.

Certified organic grapes for an enhanced terroir expression:

Started in 2005, our conversion to organic production took a concrete form three years later in 2008 with the ECOCERT certification. Since 2012, all the cellar operations are also covered by the European specification so that we can now speak about organic wines.

Wine character:

A beautiful deep and intense red colour.. A nose of red and black fruits. A good structure, fruity, fresh and long on the palate. A wine in full phase of development toward a fine state of balance.

Tips for consuming:

Perfect wine with cold meats and salads, poultry and white meat, red meat and game, and finally with cheese.
To drink immediately, but its tannins will become rounder with ageing.

The 2016 - vintage:

After a mild but humid winter, the reserves in ground water could be regenerated.
The vines started their development on a normal date mid-april. The fruit potential was great but a high pressure of diseases due to heavy rainfalls reduced it significantly. Thanks to a very dry and hot summer the remaining grapes could be preserved under very good conditions.
Finally, the 2016 wines show good maturity with great tension.
